Likely 2NT.

In French, it is "2 sans atout" (2 without any). I believe it may have the same abbreviation in other european languages.

i presume then that 2 "without any" means 2 "without any trump". but was one telling the other what to bid? if so, that seems against the rules. i'm new so maybe i'm missing something.

thanks, again. Terry

It could have been keyboard entry gone wrong. It could have been a discussion of the last hand. It could be something totally different. I can't imagine it being "please bid 2NT" - why?

I would guess it was after this hand:

Where after seeing dummy (or making 1NT+3), your LHO (French, as expected) thought his partner should have invited game with 2NT, got annoyed, and left.
